I hope everyone is enjoying the warm weather we’ve been waiting so long for! Now that summer is here and the kids are out of school, there are many things to look forward to over the next few months in our local community.

The summer traditions continue with the Orange Township Summer Movie Night on June 23. Our residents voted, and the movie “Coco” was the clear winner earning 65.82% of the overall votes. The movie will be shown in the soccer fields by the North Orange Park Aquatic Center. Family-friendly entertainment, food trucks, and other vendors will be there to make it a fun night for our community.

We are very excited for another summer tradition coming up in a few short weeks. The Olentangy Summer Bash will be kicking off our annual Independence Day activities on June 30 at Olentangy High School. The event will feature live music by local bands Cure Culture and Pray for Sleep, followed by our fireworks display. The three band members of Cure Culture, Carter Smith, and brothers Will and Ethan Carlson, are graduates of Olentangy High School. Two of Pray for Sleep’s band members, Cameron Dickson and Hayden Kissler, are 2018 graduates of Olentangy Orange High School and former members of The Marching Pioneers. After winning a Battle for the Range contest sponsored by radio station 99.7 The Blitz, Pray for Sleep performed at Rock on the Range on May 20 at Columbus’ MAPFRE Stadium. Rock on the Range is one of the country’s biggest rock shows of the year. We are looking forward to hearing both bands perform for their friends and neighbors at this year’s Olentangy Summer Bash. The morning of July 4th will begin as it has for the last several years — with the Freedom 4 Miler! The race will start at 8 a.m. inside Olentangy Orange High School football stadium, and continue through the beautiful neighborhood streets on a patriotic community course. Participants can walk or run the race, enjoy food at the finish line, and receive a race shirt. You must register by June 20 to be guaranteed a t-shirt. Proceeds from the Freedom 4 Miler will benefit Honor Flight, a non-profit organization dedicated to transporting as many US military veterans as possible to visit and reflect on the memorials they fought for. You can learn more about the Honor Flight, the Freedom 4 Miler, or secure your race spot by visiting the race’s website at freedomfourmiler.org.

The holiday activities will conclude with the Fourth of July parade, a long-time tradition in Orange.  I’m looking forward to these events, as well as the block parties, cookouts and vacations that are a fun part of summer. Hope you have a great month!
